The National Physician Payment Transparency Program, also known as Open Payments, affects many health care industry participants.  Accordingly, even though applicable manufacturers and applicable group purchasing organizations (GPOs) are the only entities required to report data under the program, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is not overlooking patients or physicians.  In two recent brochures for patients and physicians, CMS provides highlights of the OPEN Payments program.  As we have noted, CMS is also providing more in-depth resources and fact sheets specific to applicable manufacturers, GPOs,  physicians and teaching hospitals, holding teleconferences, and making continuing medical education modules related to the Sunshine Act available through Medscape.  As many patients and physicians are still learning about the Sunshine Act, the brochures provide an introduction and directions on how to obtain more information, which is increasingly available.
